As much as I love international travel, sometimes I feel the need for a quick getaway. I want to journey somewhere that won’t require a passport, refreshes my soul, and truly relaxes me. A place where twenty four hours is all I need to breath in a bit of fresh air. Harrison Hot Springs Resort, just over an hour from Vancouver BC, does exactly that!
As a busy Mom of three I don’t get a lot of time to myself. Sitting down for a hot meal or reading a book by the pool is a luxury I hadn’t experienced in quite a while, so when the offer came up for a night away from my kids with a few fellow bloggers, that’s exactly what I dreamed of doing!
Harrison Hot Springs | Relaxation is Just Up the Road
It’s to my advantage that I live barely forty minutes from Harrison Lake. The drive on Lougheed highway through a small farming community was absolutely breathtaking. Suddenly the mountains open up, the lake is ahead of you, and you find yourself among a tiny town of shops, restaurants and a few hotels. Fishing boats were coming and going and tourists walked hand in hand along the beach with coffees and ice creams. Ah yes, I could relax here!
I was booked to stay in a small cabin at the Harrison Hot Springs Resort. Upon entering I was greeted to a cozy sitting room with a roaring fire. A comfortable seating area was set up near a mini fridge and mounted flat screen, and the light poured in through multiple surrounding windows. To the back of the cabin was a washroom with a tub/shower and a bedroom with a closet, dresser, and comfortable bed.
The Harrison Hot Springs Resort accomodation is desired over all others because of the beautiful and natural hot springs that only this hotel offers guests. They also have a coffee shop, stores, and multiple restaurants for both casual and fine dining. There are plenty of places to eat in town, but do your research. Some are better than others!
Where to Dine in Harrison Hot Springs
What’s a vacation without good food? I enjoyed multiple meals at various locations around town and I’d highly recommend all of them!
The Lakeside Cafe is conveniently located on the second floor of the Harrison Hot Springs Resort and offers a beautiful view of the lake front. Open for buffet breakfast as well as A La Carte dinners, this is a must stop to truly experience the scenic styles of Harrison.
If you find yourself craving a good plate of fish & chips, you’ll want to hit up Harrison Corner Cafe. It’s tucked into the back of the town along the main road and offers a quiet solitude and cabin like feel. The portions were generous, the staff friendly, and it had a wonderful relaxing vibe.
The Hungry Chef Pizzeria makes you feel like you’re dining among family. Offering pizza, pasta, and craft brews, you’ll want to come hungry to this popular spot!
If you’re looking for ice cream and sweets, venture no further than Rocky Mountain Fudge! The moment you walk in you’ll be blasted with the sweet smell of home made fudge while your eyes feast on treats galour! Everyone in our party enjoys choosing a special something, whether it be marshmallows dipped in chocolate or bubble gum ice cream in a waffle cone!
What to do and How to Relax
What better way to explore Harrison Lake than a boat tour? Book a scenic cruise with Shoreline Tours aboard the Laroan! You’ll enjoy stunning waterfall views and learn a bit of the history that surrounds the area! Inside is a cozy seating area with tables, a kitchen, and washroom facilities. Up top provides outdoor seating and a BBQ that can cook up burgers and hot dogs so you can dine while you sail! The staff are well informed and eager to please, so I highly recommend booking one of their tours.
Hiking, biking, golfing and fishing are all great options during a stay at Harrison Hot Springs! Their a numerous trails to wander based on your level of adventure and relaxing bike rides through farm lands and forests. If salmon and sturgeon are your thing, sport fishing is a popular attraction in this corner of British Columbia. Multiple golf courses are close by offering both 9 and 18 hole options.
No visit to Harrison Hot Springs is complete without a soak in the hot mineral waters! Known as the ‘Healing Place’ by the Sts’ailes First Nations, these naturally occurring springs will rejuvenate and refresh you!
If you’re a guest at Harrison Hot Springs Resort you’ll have access to both their indoor and outdoor Hot Springs, a scenic set-up with both family and adults-only areas. This only is an excellent reason to book there!
If you are not staying on site you can visit the public pool located on the main strip of town. The pool is warm, but has more of a local swimming pool feel.
If your stay includes children, there’s a wonderful playground near the beach with swings, slides, and towers to climb! My kids didn’t want to leave and it’s a great spot for a picnic lunch.
