There’s a lot of excitement surrounding Pandora: The World of Avatar, opening soon at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World. Media previews have begun to leak images and video footage of what we, the guests, will soon see, and although my next visit to the magical world of Disney isn’t until February 2018, I’m already getting psyched up for this adventure from home!
I re-watched Avatar this past week, a nearly three hour fantasy film created from the imaginative brain of James Cameron. Avatar is the story of Pandora and it’s blue hued creatures, the Na’vi, intelligent and environmental beings who hold a special connection to their world. A human named Jake Sully is introduced to their land with the task of connecting and learning, but instead quickly finds his life being changed by what he experiences.
I could sit here and share with you what you can expect to see and taste during a visit to Pandora: The World of Avatar, but instead, I’m going to fill you in on why I’m eager to experience it.
Why I’m Excited for Pandora: The World of Avatar
I was very struck by the Na’vi people after re-watching Avatar. They’re not your standard creatures from a fantasy film. They represent something that I believe we should all strive to attain, and this is why I’m so excited to see Pandora: The World of Avatar.
The Na’vi Respect Nature – I wouldn’t go so far as to call them environmentalist, but they do have a strong respect and admiration for the nature that surrounds them. They understand that all things live and will one day die. They acknowledge what their land has provided them with and don’t take any of it for granted.
The Na’vi Have Faith – They look to something bigger than themselves. They trust something beyond their control. They believe in and follow the direction of this greater purpose, even when they are fearful of it.
The Na’vi Honor Family – Family life is clearly an important part of who the Na’vi are. Everyone has positions and there are certain levels of authority that are to be followed. Relationships are acknowledge and respected, and keeping a commitment is a matter of utmost seriousness.
The Na’vi See Beauty All Around Them – They take the time to enjoy the world around them. They stop and smell the flowers, watch the wind blow through the trees, and listen as the water flows from the leaves and onto the ground.
The Na’vi Fight for What They Believe In – Fighting for what we believe in always comes at a risk, and the Na’vi were willing to take that risk in order to secure a better future for their people. They are brave, they are loyal, and they know what they want.
How does Pandora: The World of Avatar Differ from Other Disney Experiences?
Pandora: The World of Avatar is like nothing Disney has ever done before. You will truly be immersing yourself in another world! As it changes from day to night it’ll encapsulate all your senses with a simple walk down a path. Floating mountains will soar above you and bioluminescent forests will glow on the side of a river.
Yes, you can ride attractions and dine on delicious dining options as you would in any other location at Disney, but do yourself a favor and look past that. Take a lesson from the Na’vi and truly take in the sights and sounds of the land around you. Hold your family close, appreciate the journey that brought you to this moment, and soak in every second of the joy that surrounds you.
Pandora: The World of Avatar is set to open May 27th 2017, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World, Florida.
As the Na’vi say, May the Great Mother smile upon our first meeting.
